About ChatBill

ChatBill is invoicing built for South African tradespeople. You type a job the way you would type a WhatsApp message, and it comes back as a proper quote or invoice you can send to your customer.

Who it is for

Plumbers, electricians, builders and every other trade, working as a sole proprietor or a contractor. Small businesses bill from it too. If you do the work and you have to send someone a quote or an invoice for it, this is built for you.

Two ways to bill

Chat is the quick way, not the only way. You can also build a quote or an invoice the classic way: pick a saved client, add your lines off your price list or type them in, and send it. Same documents, same numbering, same PDF at the end of it. Use whichever suits the job, and swap between them whenever you like.

Simple on purpose

Most accounting software asks you to think like a bookkeeper before it will let you bill anybody. ChatBill asks you what the job was. Behind that simplicity sits the machinery a financial system needs: sequential document numbers, VAT handled properly whether your prices include it or not, a payments ledger where every rand received is matched to the invoice it settled, and documents that keep the figures they were sent with even after you change your prices.

None of that is on screen unless you need it. That is the point. The complicated parts are done correctly in the background so you do not have to do them in front.

No AI

There is no artificial intelligence anywhere in ChatBill. The bot you chat to is a classic rule based system, written to do one job: read a message about a job and turn it into a quote or an invoice. It asks when it is unsure and it never invents an amount.

Nothing you type is sent to a third party to be interpreted, and nothing about your customers is used to train anything. Your work stays your work.

Who builds it

ChatBill is built by a developer with 22 years in backend and financial systems development, including EMV card payment systems. That is the world where a rounding error is not a bug report, it is money, and where the rules about how a transaction is recorded are not negotiable.

Those habits are what this app is made of, even though what you see is a chat box and a Send button.

Where it runs

ChatBill runs on Amazon Web Services in their Cape Town region, so your invoices and your customers' details stay in South Africa and the app stays quick on a local connection. Emails and the SMS codes we send go out from there too.

Built here as well, for rand amounts, South African VAT and the way your customers actually expect to receive an invoice. Your customers' details belong to you and are handled the way our Privacy Policy describes.
